If a person enlists, and receives a DQ on medical, is it possible for them to be waived or is that a final decision?

Mom here…my experience is that my enlisted airman went through MEPS (NOT DoDMERB). Was initially DQ’ed for something. And then went through a waiver process and was waived. It was all completely different than DODMERB ( that my other two Mids/ROTC applicants went through).

You should talk to your recruiter about this.

Anyone who wants to enlist has to go to a MEPS, and not through DODMERB, for the medical screening.

IF the applicant is DQ at the MEPS, then the sponsoring service will forward the medical packet to their respective medical waiver review authority. For Army, it goes to USAREC at Ft Knox. For Navy, it goes to NRC in Millington, TN. For USAF, it goes to AETC at JBSA-Randolph, TX. Waivers are considered at those locations.

When it’s all said and done, about 80%ish are medically qualified outright or waivered (after a medically DQ) to enlist.

So to answer your question directly, a no at the MEPS doesn’t mean you can’t get in. You have a chance to get in with a waiver.

CONFIRMED: The Services (Army, Navy, AF, USMC, Coast Guard) are authorized to medically waive DQs assigned by DoDMERB or USMEPCOM:wiggle:
