Questions about the remedial process

Hey all, I'm having a tough time trying to word my questions so bear with me.

Army ROTC has started the waiver process and I've already been sending them remedials. Two out of four remedial codes have disappeared after I sent them what they asked for. 1735694626876.png
However, the DQ code that the remedial was for hasn't gone away yet. Does this mean the waiver was not granted? Or are they waiting for me to submit the rest of the remedials before they start removing the DQs?

Part two of my question has to do with my other correspondence, this time with NROTC. All they've given me is my DQ letter with no request for remedial. I was under the impression that if I got the NROTC scholarship, BUMED would initiate the waiver process and subsequently ask for their own remedials. 1735694717908.png
However, there aren't any remedial requests. I'm probably just being paranoid but is that a sign that they are not willing to consider waiving those DQs? Or is it just a waiting game until they get around to asking for remedials?

For the astigmatism DQ, they’re going to want to send you to an eye doctor to get a corneal topography done. Did you see another eye doctor for that? They’re going to want to make sure you don’t have any abnormalities with your cornea like keratoconus.

Yeah that's the remedial I've already done. Sent it to my technician and the two remedials about astigmatism disappeared. My question was that does that mean it was waived by the Army if the remedials are no longer on my portal?

Only way you’ll know if you’ve been waived by Army is when you see a waiver granted annotation in your portal.

When did you submit your remedials for the astigmatism and asthma?

I think it’s just a waiting game

I got the Nrotc scholarship on the November board, got officially dq’d 12/2 and haven’t heard anything since.

When did you submit your remedials for the astigmatism and asthma?

I submitted the astigmatism remedial on the 26th and got a notice on the 27th that told me I still had to submit remedials for asthma (which I am still in the process of doing). The two remedials below disappeared.

Where do I see that on my portal? This is what it says on status;

I see. A friend of a friend said that her asthma DQ -> waiver process took about 3 months. Not sure if that included time waiting to get a request for AMI.

have they asked you for additional medical information?
Not yet

In the selection packet they sent out they did say that waivers can take around 3 months to get done so I guess this might be apart of that.

Idk not much to do on my part other than check dodmerb and wait

It’ll be on your DoDMERB portal that’ll say a waiver has been granted.

Give it some time. You submitted your astigmatism stuff only last week. The cadet command people may be on vacation or working shorter house.

Plus, your asthma issue still has to get sorted out. You won’t get a final answer on a waiver yes or no until all the conditions for which you have been DQ’ed are decided.

In other words, cadet command may have all the info they need for the astigmatism but they won’t review your packet until the asthma stuff has been received. Until then, you won’t hear if you got a waiver for astigmatism until cadet command does its final review for the asthma.

Hope this helps.

Apparently the folks over at the Naval Academy’s medical office are working a little faster than nrotc’s.

USNA showed waiver pending in my portal 12/18 and waiver approved for atopic dermatitis ( eczema) without AMI 1/2

Not really relevant to this thread but for future readers or others with eczema I would recommend submitting a letter from your dermatologist explicitly stating your eczema is mild and does not require treatment. I submitted a letter to that effect and apparently that was good enough for USNA.

That makes more sense. Thanks a ton. The only thing that's bothering me now is the lack of AMI/remedial requests from Navy ROTC but that's just my paranoia I guess. If anything, all of the info that they may ask for should be with my technician by the time they request it once I get the asthma stuff sent in.

Correct.

The stuff NROTC eventually asks for may already be the same your submitted for AROTC.

The case manager will just give what’s on hand to NROTC once they ask for it, so that’ll help with the waiver review timeline.

DoD organizations will be getting back in the saddle full bore next week so things should start moving again.

what are remedial codes. I don't have any remedial codes for both my DQs, what does that mean

Remedial codes are attached to each type of remedial (additional medical information or additional medical studies) that is being requested by either DoDMERB or the waiver authority.

For example, there’s a specific remedial code associated with a pulmonary function test.

DoDMERB or the waiver authority may want a PFT on an applicant who has questionable asthma right now.

There’s code Rxxx.xx that is used for PFTs.

I believe it’s used to make communication between the waiver authority, DoDMERB, and the CivTeam clear on what exact info is needed to make a decision on an applicant.

There’s remedial codes for specialty consults, requests for specific medical records (eg provide psychiatric records), labs (eg complete blood count), and studies/imaging studies (eg scoliosis survey).

DoDMERB typically takes some time to work through things especially at this time of year as they're trying to process everyone applying to academies, ROTC, etc. My timeline (if I can remember correctly) was -ROTC scholarship awarded in late October, did my appointments, paperwork, etc in November-December. Remedial requested in early February. Final decision came late March. Timeline is different for everyone. Just keep checking portal and submitting stuff promptly as it shows up. Good luck!

Wow! I've been hearing this everywhere but I still end up checking my DODMERB site every day and waiting for that correspondence email notification. Army's been pretty quick---very quick, even---with AMIs and remedials but no word from the Navy other than UWR. Looks like I really have to learn to be patient

Yeah patience is the name of the game for this whole process for better or worse. I wouldn't obsess over it. Keep an eye on the portal and submit everything on time but don't let it control your life.
