Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

The assistant for the MOC texted my son they needed to discuss next steps and threw out a day & time range ...but it was when he would be in class so he asked if they could talk after school instead. The assistant proposed a better time/day, he accepted, but the call never happened, didn't know why, the appointment showed up that weekend. If my son knew it was really the appointment call, he would have taken it in class, but he had no idea as this was January and by how the call was worded as a next step discussion. I’m sure it would have been really exciting to get that call in class but he is just thrilled to be going to USAFA.

You really think so? That was our thought as well
Definitely! Might be the best part of the process!
Congratulations to the new appointees! Question to the ones receiving calls, are all of those calls made by the MOC or MOC's office? Just wondering if any Senator is calling as well. Thanks in advance.
When my DS got his USMA appointment, our Reps staffer called me 'secretly' to make sure my DS would answer his phone in an hour. For USAFA, he just called directly and I had to ask him to call back in 15 mins! DS only got Reps nom for USMA so we wouldn't expect a senator to call. He got a rep and sen nom for USAFA so I'm curious if the senator will call before Sunday.

I am seeing that not one Senator made a call. We'll see what happens in the next few days.

Quick question for those posting March 16 and 17 on the appointment thread —— is that the date you heard from your MOC or the date your portal changed ?

Our MOC does not generally call those fortunate enough to be appointed.

Thanks
Neither does ours - we weren't even notified of a nomination by our MOC!

My MOC’s office wanted him to make the call to inform me, but they realized that with everything going on right now he wouldn’t have time until after it showed up on my portal anyways, so they decided to go ahead and call me! I expect I’ll hear from him down the line, I can’t complain that I didn’t hear from him early though since I really wanted to know in order to get rid of some nervousness!

At my son's school, the appointee notifies the Academy that he/she wants their appointment letter to be presented at their school. The academy coordinates with the school and then send an officer or a non-commissioned officer to present the appointment. Very emotional ceremony by the way.
This is generally done at the schools awards and scholarship night and is not the initial notification of appointment. I've been fortunate enough to present quite a few of these over the years at the awards nights and it is generally a lot of fun as the majority of the scholarships being given are 1 or 2 thousand dollars and then I come up and give the 4 year ride with pay and a job afterward which tends to get a big reaction from the audience.

Very nice. I wish my DS’ school would do that to commend him on hir hard work to get the appointment offers etc

Do you know we could request this for our DS/DD's?

As a BGO, when one of my candidates gets an offer, I reach out to them to ask if they want it presented at the school's
awards night. If its a yes, I reach out to the school to get onto the agenda. Sometimes, I need the candidate to work with me
as some schools required the student's participation to get me invited.
I have also presented to candidates that were not mine when their actual BGO had a conflict.

Contact their ALO. Usually the ALO will present it or arrange to have someone do it if the ALO is not available. Remember to give them reasonable notice so they have time to organize.

Thank you, I'm so glad to know this isn't done in their portal. My DD isn't much on recognition so I may have to make the necessary contacts (otherwise I don't think it would happen). :)

At my daughters senior awards last year we saw a student who received his from the naval academy, it was one of the best parts of the night. I can’t believe I will be seeing my son get one this year from USAFA.
