Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

I am assuming people will probably wait until the last minute to decline their offers (I just only declined mine today), which might mean a small wave of BFEs (along with a large wave of TWEs, unfortunately) on the 15th. This is just speculation of course, but I'm hoping that one of y'all might get the BFE in place of me declining my offer. Best of luck to y'all still waiting!
May I ask why you declined?

My father works with USAFA in selecting foreign appointees in the Philippines where we are stationed and he has some sort of insight. He received an email today from someone he knows directly in admissions that "Zach may want to check his admissions portal on Monday" and left it at that. Although ambiguous, my thinking is that they wouldn't be bothering with waivers for people who are going to be rejected within the next 4 days.
That stands to reason and I greatly appreciate your insight. I have zero plans to share with DS to avoid the rollar coaster of emotions to that extreme but gosh that would be incredible. Just going to work hard to enjoy this lovely Easter weekend & live in the moments. Good luck to you!

No problem at all! I explained this in a previous thread, but I felt that the Navy had more options for me after graduating. I do plan on going pilot, and I've heard that if you want a pilot slot at either USAFA or USNA, as long as you have decent grades, it shouldn't be a problem to get a slot. I am also open to other communities such as SWO, IWC, etc., so I wouldn't really mind going into other communities except for subs (although I really do want pilot at the moment). Another reason was that I felt that the culture of both USNA and the Navy, in general, are a better fit for me compared to USAFA and the Air Force - I felt that USNA has a lot more traditions and culture-related things compared to USAFA (for me, this included stuff like Herndon, Sea Trials, YPs, Army-Navy, etc.). Additionally, I felt that the locations of Navy bases compared to Air Force bases is just better overall (even though the quality is probably better for Air Force bases) since almost all Navy bases will be located near cities and the water, while there are a quite a few Air Force bases in the middle of nowhere (Wyoming, Idaho, North Dakota, Alaska, etc.). Finally, even though I'm not a huge fan of the water, being able to travel around the world and visit different countries/ports is something that really stood out to me. Hopefully that made sense to you! Apologies for the super long post 😅

Congratulations. My DS also from D11. Probably see you in congressional reception next month?
I haven't heard about that yet, but if there's a reception, we'll be there! It would be great to connect with a local family. Can you share the date/time/location of the reception? As far as I know, we haven't received anything other than the appointment letter. Thanks!

It’s by invitation only (7 May noon), please contact Rep’s office to update appointees list. They’ll send your DS a link to fill out a form.

Cheers to another glorious Friday...the silence in deafening. I guess we can assume the rumors of the TWE wave being pushed back are confirmed, and it looks like another rounds of appointments on Mon. Wait...so that's another weekend of watching the clock slowly tick by, just waiting for the portal to update...or not...on Mon?

Nope...not for us. First, huge thanks to this community and the support through this year. DS has pulled the trigger on plans B (reapply) and C (ROTC) while not closing any doors for plan A. So it's on to used car shopping, dorm room prep, signing up for yet another SAT test day, practice CFA's on the weekends with the old man and scheduling ROTC orientation.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, and finds something fun to take your mind off another round of waiting.

Imagine my son’s face when he receives an email from admissions after adding a file to his application, and they start the email by saying “Dear Cadet” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Obviously it was a typo but still hahaha. He is waiting like many over here for a positive outcome but nothing yet. Happy Easter!!

I'm glad you said something about this. I called and they said they had already sent an email about it to both me and my DS and neither one of us received it. See you there!

My congressperson is holding a reception for all nominations… little late when most of them probably know their status. Maybe it was a typo and it’s for appointments!

Check out your local parent club. Great resource. They will have a welcome event prior I-Day.

another question, has your DS received his Appointee Kit? I'm just wondering who sends it and if it's something else that has mysteriously not shown up. My DS accepted the afternoon of 4/13.

It will be in his portal. I think it's the pre appointment kit Covid and preliminary info. Once completed, the appointee kit will be in the portal. This may not be completely accurate. I only get to see when DD sits next to me on the couch and works on it:)

He accepted 3/20 and Appoint kit appeared on 1 Apr on portal so give it few more days. 😉
And now makes sense about the Rep reception, we received the invitation before 13 Apr.

Is anyone else's portal not loading information past ALO info? Has this happened to anyone who received an appointment already?
