My DS just did a practice CFA with me yesterday.
He did;
7:30 for 1 mile (below average)
95 sit-ups (max)
75 push-ups (max)
8.4 for shuttle run (below average)
69 feet on basket ball throw (average)
9 pull ups (average)
Are these passing for Army, MMA or Navy? Any thoughts? Is he ready for real test? Qualified person's honest comments would be very appreciated. Thanks,

Hi, I took the test with my physical Education teacher in June. I had two events below average. My MALO(USMA) is an AD recruiting Company commander in my county. He said that I shouldn't send in my CFA unless every event was on or above average. I live in an extremely competitive district (NY-01) which makes things complicated. He had a SSG from his company redo my test 2 months later. Some of it isn't all physical ability like the shuttle run and the basketball toss. It is just practice and proper technique.
I can speak to proper ways to train for the mile. My father is a Varsity Track and Field Coach and I run track but I am more of a sprinter and never raced a mile outside of gym class. There are some great workouts all over the web but doing a military fitness test adds the extra factor of being tired before you start. Have your DS increase his mileage per week. Running at least 2-3 miles three times a week really makes the mile seem easy. Once a week he should hit the track for a timed workout. Six 400m runs at or faster than his target mile split((total mile/4)-1 extra second) with full recovery in between sets. Good luck to your DS.

DD was below on two things last year. She sent it to USMMA and it was fine. Apparently, if you are below minimum, they will make you test again. If you want to be more competitive, redo it. If all your other application criteria is excellent, you may get by without it. You are still early in the application process, so train a little more and retake it. Academies are so competitive. Put your best foot forward.
