Hi all,
I was accepted to NASS last month and since then have thought of some questions I was hoping someone could answer for me:
1) Based on flights out of my area, I could either arrive at BWI at 9:50 AM or at 1:50 PM. Which time do you believe is better to arrive?
2) Will the CFA that is administered at NASS be able to apply to both of my (future) applications to USNA and USMA?
3) Also in regards to the CFA, are the push-ups and sit-ups completed in one, two minute session?
4) In the emails that USNA has sent me about NASS, I have not seen what workshop I will be assigned to. Will I find out in Annapolis or am I looking in the wrong place?
5) When will my “portal” open up for the official USNA application?

Thank you for any and all help!

1) Personally, I likes being at the academy earlier as you can play sports with people and just "chill" for a bit until the fun begins. Plus you get to meet a ton of people and have a good time.

2) I know the test applies to other SA's. Not 100% sure about army because I've heard they require you to film the pull ups section (or maybe all of it idk). They don't film you doing it, that's for sure. Sorry I can't answer, I didn't apply to USMA.

3) The push ups are completed in one 2 minute section. And then the sit ups are completed in a separate 2 minute section.

4) I found out there. They give you a schedule that says where to go when the time comes. I'm actually not 100% sure if they tell you before hand, it's been awhile.

5) Not sure, but completing the summer seminar application also completes your preliminary application.

For a first post, that's a pretty good list of questions, but most can be answered with a little digging on the USNA.edu website, or from info that was sent (or will be sent) to you from USNA as it pertains to NASS.

1. I'm going to say that your suggested arrival time will be sent to you. The Naval Academy is a well-oiled machine. They will tell you when to be there, based on arriving in DCA or BWI and getting ground transportation to the Academy.
2. Yes. The CFA at USNA and USMA are the same. USMA however, requires a video (of the push-up and pull-up portion of the test) . You can ask if taking the CFA at USNA provides this independent verification that the CFA was done correctly by USMA standards, when you're attending NASS.
3. The CFA is explained in detail at https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/Candidate-Fitness-Assessment.php
4. I expect that USNA will tell you which workshop you'll be in, via EMail or regular USPS mail.
5. Your "portal" is called the Candidate Information System and you won't receive login information until you move from "applicant" status (where you are now) to "candidate" status. The only way to become an official "candidate" is to receive the "Ecandidate Packet Letter" via EMail, which - if you are granted official candidate status - usually arrives in the 2nd week of May. The letter will assign you a Username, Password, and the all-important Candidate Number.
You do not need a Candidate Number for NASS or CVW.
