Concerning admission process this year. Due to the fact that the high school graduating class of 2008 (anyone applying to college this year) is the largest ever (in ever, i mean ever) will more candidates be picked for admission? Or because there are only so many rooms allotted to the plebes, will it remain the same?

It will remain the same. USNA has a federally manadated end strenght of 4400 midshipmen. Based on attrition, the class of 2012 will be approximately 1200 appointments.

can i ask why roughly 1400 appointments were offered then? I mean no disrespect, but it shows on the class of 2011's profile on the usna website that 1400 appointments were given out, even though only about 1200 ended up going. Or am i misunderstanding this.

I had heard that there are a lot more students this year applying to colleges and that it's going to be very competitive to get an appointment. Receiving an appointment (or getting into a college anywhere) should be a pretty big thing this year, then, since it is more competitive. At least that's how I view it.
