How much does Coast Guard consider High School GPA for people that have completed a semester of college?

I graduated from a fairly competitive high school with a 3.4 GPA which barely put me in the top half of my class.

I went to one of the military junior colleges for a prep year and ended the semester with a GPA of 4.0 taking the same classes as the CGAS cadets along with a harder math class.

I have heard that college GPAs weigh more on the application than high school GPAs do, but is it possible that my low high school GPA could still drag my application down?

They’ll certainly look at everything, but a 4.0 at a military college would carry weight assuming you took calculus, chem, physics, etc.
I think one question, since you completed a year of self prep is, are you a reapplicant? I think if you are, it may possibly help your case more. CGA famously likes reapplicants and “loves people who love the Coast Guard”. It would show you had interest in high school, applied, maybe got rejected or waitlisted, then went to the effort to self prep, showed great academic improvement, and tried again.

If you aren’t a reapplicant, it certainly doesn’t take away from your awesome accomplishment of earning a 4.0 in your first semester of military prep school, but you’ll be viewed as a first time applicant and I sort of think your high school and college transcripts will be reviewed together. The good news is you can get LORs from your college instructors where you seem to be performing well, and have the military component of your college under your belt which will help differentiate you.
