Re Took Classes For Better Grade

I currently am going be a junior in high school, this past year i sadly had received an F in Honors Algebra 4. But this summer I retook that same course and now have received an A. On my transcript it will show both grades, but my GPA will be restored back to a 4.0. Do you think having academy see I received an F is bad? Do you think it will hurt my chances?
 
You can't hange it is the bottom line. I think it will be part of your discussion with your ALO or any other school you apply to and possibly an essay topic of how you failed and what you learned from it. If you can show solid math grades and SAT/ACT math score USNA might chalk it up as a one off. None of us know how admissions will view it, you can't change it, but you can confront it and move forward from it. I believe what you do going forward will be a huge part of how it's viewed.
 
Yes and Yes. Obviously it would be better if you never got the F.
 
The F will be a negative.

Gosh, my brother taught HS math and physics for 40 years always told me that in order to get a "F", you almost had to TRY to fail.

Yes, the recovery to an A may help, but I gotta believe that the F will require some kind of explanation on your essay.
 
Were there any circumstances that contributed to the F? Family stuff etc?There is a huge difference between an A and a F. Don't feel you have to put your personal business on front street but think about how you would explain the F.
 
So the reason why I got an F was because I was unable to take the Final. And I was unable to take my math final because I was dealing with family issues that day, and its policy at my high school where if you don't the final exam you automatically receive an F no matter what your grade was before. I was able to receive an A in summer school, because that was my grade before I was unable to take the final.

Is it possible to get them to change your first grade to an "Incomplete"? Sounds more applicable in your situation, especially if they don't use the F in calculating your GPA. Of course, it sounds like you have great essay material as it is to rise above what sounds like an unfair situation. Good luck to you! If your overall GPA is a 4.0 you are doing something right!
