I just read that you need REAL ID to enter the Academy. We are from PA and it's not a REAL ID state. Anyone have any idea about this? Technically we don't need to update until 2025 in Pennsylvania.

From the information on the website, it looks like that won't be enforced until May 7th, 2025, once the REAL ID is going to be enforced everywhere.

Recently had a problem with a gun purchase because I did not have the REAL ID. Highly recommend going to the DMV and getting the real ID as soon as possible because more and more agencies are requiring its use.

We're from NJ, which also doesn't require it yet, and we just used our normal licenses to get on campus in October.

Maybe you don’t ”need” to update until 2025, seems it would be a good idea to do it now. Get used to following military regulations, not just those from your home state.

Where did you read that? If it was in the information about on campus activities June 24-26, I missed it. I would hope they would emphasize it in the information if it were necessary since family will be coming from all over. Now we will all be rushing to get REAL IDs since it's too late to get passports.

I know we’re talking USCGA, and CGA is not DoD, but this is generally a federal requirement.

REAL ID's have been available in every state for years. People should not complain about the inconvenience of obtaining compliant identification when the only reason that they don't already have it is due to their own laziness.

No, not available for years everywhere. In NJ, they started offering a VERY limited number two yrs ago but only for renewals/new licenses.
Upgrading to Real ID outside of the renewal cycle was not allowed and then, last year they let in some upgrades but only VERY VERY
limited numbers of appointments. I tracked it for a while as I wanted to do this but the required appointment system could not find any
within the following 2 months whenever I or my friends have tried. The system only allows 2 months in advance and if it can't find any it
says to try again in the future.

I understand that some states still do not require nor issue REAL ID compliant DL's. That being said if you know ahead of time that you want to enter a military facility it would probably be a good idea to contact that facility's security or visitors office and confirm what is needed. Many government installations offer a "temporary" visitors pass after completing a short screening process. And as mentioned above passports usually work OK as do REAL ID Act Compliant documents, but that is very dependent on the level of security in force at the installation or building at the time of entry.

New Jersey started offering REAL ID in 3rd quarter 2019 - almost 4 years ago. They have been offering appointments for both scheduled renewal/upgrade and on-demand upgrade for at least a year. There are literally hundreds of available appointments available at every NJMVC location. I stand by my statement - if someone wanted to obtain the ID in NJ, they could have done so.

Also, according to DHS, every state has been issuing REAL ID compliant licenses since 9/10/2020.

You are either believing the MVC's PR or not telling the whole truth when you say that there are hundreds of available appointments at every NJMVC location.
First of all, NJMVC split up their locations and made some of them "Registration only" and removed their abilities to do licenses.

Secondly, I attempted to schedule this over and over again with no luck within an hour's drive as was also the case for my friends/family.

I just looked online this very minute for the closest facility to me and low and behold there are exactly TWO appointments available for the entire remainder of this month. When I looked at next month, there is nothing before July 21st. That said it is better than it was last fall so when I get back from the trip I'm on , I will attempt to get one scheduled which will probably be in August.

PA resident here. Commonwealth has been issuing Real IDs for a couple years. Go on the DMV/PADOT website to check documents you need to present. I went in person, and it went very quickly and smoothly. PA simply gave residents a break by extending deadline.
