Realistically... too late to apply or not?

I believe the deadline for your candidate packet is Mar 1. The nominating sources have deadlines that are much earlier. You said that your MOC said that she has nominated four to USNA. Please make a call to MOC office and make sure that they will still take a look at your application.
Good Luck...keep us posted

I left a message with my MOC's Academy Cordinator this evening. I spoke with her a few weeks ago at a Nominee Reception. There, she gave me the impression that I just need to call if I decided to pursue the USNA. Hopefully it's just a formality.

Appointment to USNA

There are as many paths to the Naval Academy as their Midshipmen. If you can get the package completed within the time period, get it done and at least get a measuring stick of where you stand. A little less than 1/3 of each class has at least one year of college prior to entering Navy and they do very well over their 4 years. There are many ways to get the college experience, but wherever you go you want to take a good solid basic freshman curriculum. You will want to take Calculus, Chemistry with lab, English, and History. ROTC programs are wonderful, but what you want is solid academics and leadership opportunities, which can be gained through volunteer programs. When you volunteer, do not just volunteer to pick-up trash along the highway on neighborhood clean-up day, volunteer to organize the refreshments, transportation, or some other aspect of the event that requires organization and management. Finally, if your ultimate goal is a service academy, you want to look into Prep schools whose programs are designed specifically for Academy preparation. Greystone Prep in Kerrville, Texas is one of the best Service Academy Prep programs available and you do not have to have a Foundation Scholarship to attend.

Buffalo -
What happened? You can't leave us hanging. Well, I guess you can, but enquiring minds want to know. Is your MOC nominating you for USNA?

Sorry 2012mom!

Regarding the nomination, I did speak with my MOC's academy contact the day after I left the message. As I thought, there were 4-5 open nomination slots, and the contact did not think I would have a problem getting one. The nomination has not yet been reflected on my candidate page, however. In other news, I had my Blue and Gold officer interview this evening. That went well. The officer I spoke with certainly thinks I am a good candidate and hopes I will get into both USNA and AFA.

As for the rest of the application, I still need to complete my data record, personal statement, activities record, and my CFA. I hope to complete the first three this weekend. I plan to retake the CFA either late this next week or the week after that.

Nomination is now officially reflected on my candidate page, so now it's all up to me. Gotta get the personal statement and CFA done asap...

Your previous CFA will suffice. If you feel you can do significantly better, then do it again.

Haha, don't think my CFA will suffice. The AFA asked me to retake it due to a low pushup score. Needless to say, I am glad to have the opportunity to submit a better score to both academies.

Application is now complete, including an improved CFA. Now to join the ranks of the waiting hopefuls.

I just posted the news in thread please tell me, but I also felt it was appropriate here to add some closure to this thread.

Anyway, I just spoke with a staff member from my congresswoman's office. She gave me the good news that I have received an appointment to the Naval Academy. Apparently the official package was sent out today. At this point I will likely accept my AFA appointment (received two weeks ago), but I feel so lucky to be put in the position where I must choose from two fine schools.

I may see if I can attend a visitation weekend to get a true feel for USNA. Thank you all for your support and kind words!

Congrats Buffalo. Big decision for a big future.
