Appointment to USNA
There are as many paths to the Naval Academy as their Midshipmen. If you can get the package completed within the time period, get it done and at least get a measuring stick of where you stand. A little less than 1/3 of each class has at least one year of college prior to entering Navy and they do very well over their 4 years. There are many ways to get the college experience, but wherever you go you want to take a good solid basic freshman curriculum. You will want to take Calculus, Chemistry with lab, English, and History. ROTC programs are wonderful, but what you want is solid academics and leadership opportunities, which can be gained through volunteer programs. When you volunteer, do not just volunteer to pick-up trash along the highway on neighborhood clean-up day, volunteer to organize the refreshments, transportation, or some other aspect of the event that requires organization and management. Finally, if your ultimate goal is a service academy, you want to look into Prep schools whose programs are designed specifically for Academy preparation. Greystone Prep in Kerrville, Texas is one of the best Service Academy Prep programs available and you do not have to have a Foundation Scholarship to attend.
