Hello,

I currently a. an re-applicant. I always had the desire too attend West Point, so I decided to give it go- since I failed the CFA years back. I have 3Q, boys state, letters, college officer positions, etc.., But I only have a past 1300 SAT score. Will a 3.7 in STEM (100 credit hours) help offset my low score? I know about district competitiveness- I have presidential and congressional- but I want to seek advice in general terms. I heard the class average can be around 1270, but it is often driven down by recruited athletes/ other factors (please let me knw if this isn't true).

I also failed my CFA because my coach didn't record all the video. My district was super competitive (My district had schools that were ranked one of the highest in the state (rank #5 and other high rated high schools). Lucky you got a congressional nomination. I only had the presidential because I was rejected from the congressional nomination.

Also, admissions are random. I heard from people with a senator +congressional + great stats (32 ACT and good extracurriculars) still get rejected from WestPoint.

DS is a plebe at WP. He scored 1300 on SAT. DS was not a recruited athlete or other special category. Put forward the best application you can. The score alone is not disqualifying. Good luck!

Reapplicants are also awarded more Whole Candidate Score points directs are not. 1300 is a solid SAT score. It is true that the average is driven down by recruited athletes/diversity candidates, but as long as you are competitive in your district you have a solid shot. Remain proactive with your RC and hang tight. Good luck!

Hello,

I am a current cadet and member of the Class of 2025. I took the SAT once, and never sent in the scores. I did however take the ACT seven, yes you read that right, seven times! I started with a 21 and ended with a 34. I prepped for the exam like crazy and worked through every practice test I could get my hands on. Where you start is not where you finish. I knew what I had initially was not good enough to gain admission and I wouldn’t stop until I met the top end of WP’s range (34-36). It can be done, you can get a better score, but you must be willing to sacrifice and work for it. Don’t settle. I also hired a tutor to help and that helped significantly. I worked throughout high school to pay his fees. As a re-applicant you still need to stand out. I have a friend who is here who got a much lower score: 21, but he was a recruited athlete and was able to stand out in other ways. If you have any questions or want any more advice please feel free to DM me.

Beat Navy!!!

My DS is in your Class of 25 and also a reapplicant who made it into USMA on his 3rd attempt. He also took one SAT but he beat you on the ACT, he took it 12 times! He did very similarly on his scores, he went from 21 to 33, and like you worked his tail off to achieve his goal. I hope applicants who may receive the TWE see this and understand that the TWE is not necessarily the end of the road unless they choose it to be. College reapplicants do get extra WCS points and I'm certain this got him over the finish line. DS is thriving at WP {Deans List, Conference All Academic Team for his sport, and was invited to apply to the Writing Fellows Program which apparently is VERY selective) this wouldn't have happened if he didn't put the work in. I'm sure he would have done great if he continued in his private college/ROTC path but he wanted USMA like his older brother Class of 2017. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your insight. My DS is also a college re-applicant. He’s been 3Q’d with 2 MOC nominations. When you suggest “remaining proactive with your RC”, our DS has never communicated directly with his; however, he’s maintained contact with his FFO. Would you recommend he reach out to his RC, or sit tight? TIA!
