I am an applicant who, fortunately or unfortunately, did not receive an appointment last year. I started my reapplication process a few days after I got the TWE. I plan on going to MMI as a self prep student. MMI has Service Academy Programs that you can enroll in, but they require you to have an SAT/ACT score. I was not able to take any official standardized tests due to cancellations last year, so I am only allowed to enroll in their regular leadership program. Will the fact that I am not enrolled in one of their Service Academy Prep programs affect my application?

Also if you have any other advice for a reapplicant such as myself, I would be happy to hear them.

Fellow incoming MMI Cadet here. The two ACT test dates during the summer are on June 12 and July 17. My best recommendation would be to see if you could try and get a spot in one of those two test dates and use that score to change your enrollment. Not sure if you can get a spot in the June 12 test date but you could definitely get a July 17 test and get your hands on a test score. Check with LTC Bowen to see if they will allow you to change your enrollment once you get that new test score since it will be a week and a half before you happen to be allowed to report before making any moves but this is absolutely a process that you need to get on with right now. They should be pretty flexible but it is always in your best interest to check before you do so. 1622655101984.png

Thanks so much for this info! Do you mind giving me LTC Bowen's email address? Also do you know if there are any SAT tests being offered near MMI? I plan on taking the ACT this summer since the SAT is not offering tests, but once August comes I know they'll start offering them again, so I plan on taking it later in the year. I'm from the Northeast so I'm more familiar with the SAT than the ACT.

Here is his contact info. Should be on this website.

With MMI be careful. I know several people who were cadets at MMI, and they all said that self sponsored prep cadets didn’t often get appointments. Also the living conditions at MMI are pretty awful. One of my close friends from high school went there and there was a period of about a month where all of their running water was brown. I don’t want to discourage you, but I want to give you a heads up on what you’re getting yourself into.

Thank you for your concern. In terms of self sponsored cadets getting appointments, I saw a chart that shows the number of self prep cadets getting in compared to sponsored cadets, and I saw that the numbers were not that different. There were more sponsored cadets getting in of course, but I saw that they were roughly the same (for USNA at least)

LTC Bowen who leads the SAP is a WP Grad and has close connections with WP. Not sure if what G0navybeat@rmy says is true but all I can say is that you're in good hands with LTC Bowen at the helm. Either way, my best recommendation would be to contact LTC Bowen and see if you can change your enrollment with your July 17 score.
