A couple months ago, when my transcript was submitted to the afa, my gpa was recalculated from 3.906 to 3.78. I'm not taking any fluff classes; all my classes are required for my state's advanced diploma. Also, my gpa is not weighted. I've been curious as to what influences the decisions to recalculate a gpa.

My guess would be the school profile plays a big part. My DD's unweighted GPA was submitted as 3.78 and recalculated to a 4.25. All honors and AP classes, but her high school is ranked as one of the top 100 most challenging in the country.

But as everyone else on all of this forum's threads...at the end of the day, who really knows how or why?!

It does not matter. My GPA was 3.75 unweighted and SAT score is 1560 I got an LOA. There is really no easy or standard way to compare GPAs, my guess is SAT scores are the only way to compare. Your GPA 3.78 is good. I have seen people with 4.5 plus GPAs have much lower SAT scores than mine. This is not a problem unique to USAFA, its across all colleges in the US.

Also how can one fairly compare GPA when everybody is taking different courses with different levels of difficulty. The only thing you have in your control to make your case stand out are the standardized tests and your athletic and leadership skills.
