Received Appointment - Overnight Visit

DS (17 y/o) received an appointment and has accepted. He's very excited and wants to do an overnight visit. There's no doubt in his mind USMA is the place for him, he's not second-guessing himself. I think he just wants to experience again and be ready for July.

Is this advisable? Will he be able to get on the installation?
 
If you can swing it, he should do it. My DD loved her overnight visit. Since she has accepted her appointment she has been texting with the cadet who hosted her to get advice. It has been very helpful.
 
Are you asking about the installation for real ID? Does your state have an approved Real ID or does DS have a valid passport? Or do you have a military ID as a dependent?
 
He can get on base with a valid form of id. People visit WP every day that do have have an installation pass or gov. ID. It's one of the biggest attractions in NY. We lived on West Point for 5 years and it was absolutely one of the most wonderful times of our lives.
 
My son also went for an overnight visit after he was accepted. While he is there, maybe he can buy his boots and low quarters at the cadet store on post.

I received an LOA last fall and took an overnight visit knowing I already wanted to attend. I ended up making good friends with my Plebe escort and now I already have one friend there! If nothing else, it will be a fun chance to experience West Point without the stress of being a Cadet.
