This year Recognition will begin Thursday 4/20 and end Saturday 4/22. I was considering visiting on Sunday afternoon to take my son out to lunch. Can anyone who’s been through it in the recent past let me know what that Sunday is like for the cadets. Would be an good time to leave base for a few hours?

Thanks

Recognition is for the cadets not the parents. I’m guessing your cadet is going to want to bond with their classmates over this largest achievement they have probably accomplished in their life so far. My opinion, leave the weekend alone and let them do their own thing Sunday. Also, squadron dependent some will have cookout/ barbecue with the upperclassman that they can feel a part of for the first time.

Don't recommend you plan a visit on the Sunday of Recognition weekend. There will most likely be squadron dinners that day to celebrate the completion of Recognition. This an important time for the newly recognized cadets to bond with upperclassmen & you don't want your DD/DS to feel conflicted between spending time with their squad mates vs. spending time with mom. (A USAFA grad mom)

Are you able to wait and see your cadet for the 96 hours of leave? That will be after Recognition and before Graduation.

Visitng during recognition is 100% off the table.
Do you have dates for the 96 hours of leave you mentioned? I’m not seeing it on the academic calendar.

Thanks

96 hours is just the time period between your cadet's last final and their next duty, normally during the next week. It's called 96 hours because that's the amount of time you can be gone on an eSSS (to my knowledge, at least).

Are the dates confirmed? I heard from my DS it is not set.

In addition to allowing your cadet time to bond with his squad mates, he may also want time to rest. Recognition can be mentally and physically grueling, and my son and his friends wanted nothing more than to catch up on sleep after it was over.
