Can someone explain recognition to me? I know that it takes place in march and it is generally when you are basically done being a doolie but aside from that i dont know anything.

Recognition is a milestone in a cadet's career where the restrictions of being a freshman are removed. It is a unique experience that can not be described to someone who has not gone through it. After BCT, the new C4Cs are restricted on the staircases they may use, they must carry their backpacks in their left hands, they must run the stripes of the T-zo, and they must greet the upperclassmen. After recognition, those restictions are removed. Don't worry too much about it. It is a great experience that you will be glad you went through, but are happy you don't have to do again.

usaffanatic, my son described his life before and after Recognition as being 180 degrees different. Its approx. 3 days of physical and mental challenges, after which the uppers "recognize" that you belong in the wing, that you've proven your worth I guess. In addition to the wing wide restrictions Dad mentioned, each squadron has their own additional rules (20 pushups each time you enter/leave your room for example, or no phone privileges) which make life as a doolie a challenge, but help pull them together as a cohesive unit too. They break you down to build you up. The actual Recognition is a tough 3 days, but one that gives cadets an immense sense of pride after its over.

someone recently said.... recognition is BCT on crack.

A lot of work, but you know the light at the end of the tunnel is only 3 days away.
