Hello,
My DD is recruited athlete but hasn't received the NLI yet. Has anyone received the NLI from coaches?

What is the purpose of getting the NLI while the school is already a full-ride to everyone? What are the benefits of getting the NLI?

Different academy, but my oldest was a recruited athlete. There wasn’t a NLI. But his BGO signed a ‘certificate’ he requested from his coach. BGO had never seen or done that before.

Additionally, it didn’t even matter. It was a ‘staged’ signing anyhow…blank piece of paper for each athlete. That was used for the schools purpose. The actual contracts for the athletes are signed at a different place/time anyhow. It’s all for optics.

It was a great moment though!

NLI’s for service academies, Division 3 and the Ivies are ceremonial, because there is no athletic scholarship. Signing ceremonies are just for publicity.

My kids' school is a big jock factory and is very gung ho on those NLI ceremonies. They had their latest signing day ceremony on the tenth and it did include a 2022 USAFA athlete. I'm not sure what he signed, but there was no "if admitted" qualification in the announcement. They are a very large JROTC school with a solid understanding of how this works and they had a USAFA prep school athlete last year, so there's a good chance this was a blank paper and photo opp sort of affair.

The recruiting coach can provide a "Signing Certificate" for ceremony purposes. This will allow the prospective cadet to sign something other than a "blank" piece of paper.
