ah....so this morning, my RC informed me that the USMA sport coach removed me from the recruitment list because he ran out of spots. He had already informed me awhile ago (the coach) that he wasn't able to "help me in" but I was still listed as a recruit. Now, will this negatively impact my file or lower my WCS? It's just disheartening because I've tried my best on every application but haven't received any news from any of them. Thanks.

The biggest impact is the nomination situation. If the coach was using one of his "Blue Chips", then you do not really have to compete for a nomination. Now that this has been removed, you will compete just like everyone else for the other nominations. Have you applied to your MOCs and heard if they nominated you? There should be no negative impact to your file. Your WCS is mostly based on your performance not that the coach really wants you. No one knows the exact secret formula, but athletics is only 10% and if it changes at all it will not significantly change the overall score.

I hope you tried your best. You are competing against the best candidates. You are competing to attend one of the best educational institutions.

I do not think that you are in any different place right now than you were yesterday because the coach said he couldn't help you get in. I am a recruited athlete at 3 academies and never once during a visit, email or phone call has anyone said mentioned WCS to me. Probably Because I have LOA's at 3 academies.

I don't think your WCS will be impacted by not being listed as a recruit. If you were really recruited, you would have known that and you would have been dealing with several different office at the academy that are related to recruited athletes.

In my opinion USMA 1994 is kinda right (~50%). Everyone attending an academy competes for a nomination. Whether it is a congressional, senatorial, VP, presidential, supt., etc. All athletes I know that are labeled as "recruited athletes" at any academy are actively involved (filling out nomination packets, interviewing, etc.) in securing a nomination. During this process I have been active trying to secure a nomination other than a supt's.

I have read many times here on the forums that you are in until they tell you that you are not!

Yes, I absolutely tried my very hardest. I don't think I am in a different position either. I know that even yesterday, I wouldn't have gotten any "help" per say, but I was just wondering if being "Mildly recruited" would have added to my WCS. If not, I suppose that is a relief. I also did obtain a nomination, thank you for your comments!!!

Congrats on the nomination! I don't have knowledge on being "mildly recruited" other than I don't think it will have any impact on your WCS. I think the academies look at it like either you are recruited or you are not.

It won't have any affect on your WCS score.

The recruited athlete advantage comes into play with the slots on the NWL after the first 150. It allows USMA to appoint someone with a lower WCS over someone with a higher WCS.
