For those who have gone through or are familiar with the interview process what is your opinion and recommendation on mentioning of LOA during nomination interview. On one hand this removes the selection burden for a particular candidate, as it is a clear indication to the committee that SA has gone over the application, reviewed it and picked the candidate that it really liked. On another hand I would imagine that committee wants to be in "control" and not rubber-stamp candidates that are being brought in front of them.

They aren't burdened to choose a candidate even if they have an LOA, mentioning it can only help. They'll definitely ask some form of why you wanna go to this academy and you can find a way to weave the LOA mention in there to demonstrate your level of commitment to going to that academy.

My son emailed the staff beforehand with a copy. The committee members all knew when he interviewed.

My DD sent a copy of hers to the nomination application email, humbly noting that she wasn’t sure of the process but wanted to include, if appropriate, with her candidate packet. Received emails from all three thanking her and wishing her luck 🤷‍♂️. Not sure if they were included or not, but it took her about 5 minutes and certainly didn’t hurt.

DS has LOA showing in the USNA portal but nothing in the form of letter or any other written correspondence. Has others received one?

Yes, my students have received both an email followed by a letter. The latter should be posted in your son's portal (as I recall). He may want to check his email spam too.

As noted previously, I have all of my students provide the LOA to their MOCs as well as bringing a copy to the nomination interview, if it is in person.

Where in the USNA portal? It’s posted in the portal for USMA, but not for USNA. No email in the spam folder either.

Was this for USNA during current admission cycle?

No, it was last year and the previous year, too. You should receive some type of written confirmation. All of my students across all of the SAs have received documentation of an LOA (if one was granted, of course), so I anticipate it will be the same for you son too.

Admissions indicated that no letters would be handed out and we haven’t received any over mail or email. The only item that is indicative of LOA is the status change on the portal. Has anyone received any media indicating LOA extension?

Hmmm. Strange. But, they are "Admissions" so they are the best source. Thanks for the update.
