Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the process of applying to the Academy, and I was wondering if there is any "bonus" on your application if you have family members who were/are in the Coast Guard and/or the academy? My grandfather was an officer in the Coast Guard before retiring, and my older sibling is about to be a 1/c at USCGA and is on the regimental staff for next year-- would that help my application at all?

Thanks

Not really. While there are "legacy" cadets, they aren't there because of who they're related to. The reason you'll see "legacy" cadets are because typically they have the same background which the admission looks favorably upon.

Long story short.... nah.

What STN said. The only advantage you'll have is you will have a much clearer picture of what you're facing.
