I would describe my body type as a fairly solid type. I used to sprint, I've played soccer, and hockey. Short distances (200m), that's what I've liked.
I run at night to try to stay in shape. Not always easy, but I'm doing a few miles at night.
My dad invited my to join a team for a relay race in Oregon two weeks ago. The Hood to Coast Relay (www.hoodtocoast.com) is 197 miles. It begins at Mt. Hood and ends at Seaside, OR.
That started a fire in me.
A week later I was visiting my girlfriend in New Mexico and we ran the Santa Fe Trail Run 1 mile run together.
I ended up registering for the Navy 5 Milers on Sept. 26 in Arlington, VA and the Marine Corps Marathon 10K on Oct. 31.
Well it didn't take me long to sign up with another relay team with my dad, the Ragnar Relay in Tennessee on Nov. 5-6. That race is 195 miles, from Chattanooga, TN to Nashville, TN.
When I visit my girlfriend from Thanksgiving, we're going to run the Turkey Trek 5K.
And finally, the Ragnar Relay is taking place on Sept. 24-25, from Cumberland, MD to just outside of Washington, DC. That race is 193 miles. I'm not on a team yet, but I'm feeling around. I'm a little nervous about this one, if I get a team, especially because it takes place Sept. 24-25 and the Navy 5 Miler is Sept. 26. So either I don't get a team, and just run the 5 Miler, or I get on a team, and feel out how I feel for the next day....or I try to walk the 5 Miler if I'm really tight (need 15 min/mile pace).
Races like Hood to Coast and Ragnar beat you down, but I "enjoyed" my time at Hood to Coast.
Do what makes you happy. Challenge yourself. And collect those sweet race shirts and medals.
