Redirected thread to dodmerb

Good afternoon, about 3 months ago I completed the USNA application in its entirety, including nominations, CFA, etc... except for my DoDMERB. I have not received any correspondence to schedule an exam and my understanding that I cannot be considered for an appointment until this happens. I've respectfully called the admissions office 4 times, and they told me that DoDMERB is responsible for reaching out to me, and then I reached out to DoDMERB and they told me USNA has to request for them to give me a test... so what do I do? The admissions guy at the office also told me that I could try retaking my CFA(which I already passed).

Is it true that I cannot receive an appointment without the DoDMERB exam completed?

thank you

EDIT: this is on behalf of a friend of mine who is applying. Many answers I got on the USNA thread was that maybe his file isn’t competitive. I can assure you that is not the case(at least I hope so). His file is more competitive than mine and I was qualified.

I would always be up front about everything. You should have said it was for him to begin with ... and even have encouraged him to sign up. But - no harm no foul. Just a good practice moving forward.

Comparing candidates is not as simple as comparing GPAs etc. You don’t know what they are looking at or for. So the advice you got was sound based on their experiences.

He can’t get an appointment without DoDMERB review. Hopefully there is a positive outcome.

While it may be true your friends file may be very competitive, your friend may not be the person selected for the appointment for whichever nominating source your friend received. Or, it could be that the nominating source provided their slate with a principal nominee, which in that case, if not your friend and the principal nominee is qualified, they will receive the appointment. I obviously have no idea at all, just providing examples. Every. Single. Year. Extremely qualified candidates don’t receive an appointment. Not saying that’s the case for your friend, but it happens That’s why candidates must secure their alternate plans.

IOW, it doesn’t always matter how competitive one is. There is also a slate/charging piece of the nom source. No idea if this is the case or not for your friend, but it’s an example of how a very competitive person may not receive an appointment.

Additionally, you have no idea how the rest of the slate is scored. Or how your friend interviewed. Or the competition in your friends slate. So there is more to it than being very competitive.

What was said in your other thread is still how it is. Each file will be reviewed. And DODMERB doesn’t have to be completed to proceed with that.
