If KP is requiring testing prior to students returning to campus, I’m sure all the Academy’s are doing the same. I’m going to go out on a limb and say at least 25% of the mids will test positive. I wonder what the way forward will be?

A. No plan let the virus…virus
B. Back to Zoom for first two weeks
C. Delay start date of school
D. All the Above

Here’s to 2022 and a return to normalcy. Time to get back to living.

I think USNA already stated that testing and ROM at reform. I am sure a current Mid can confirm what the plan ahead for next week is. Good luck to Brigade at reform. And to the firsties, enjoy your last semester(s), it’s a fun one!

They need to let it "virus". Soon you begin to hear about natural immunites and their effectiveness even over the shots we all getting. We areseeing the last "serious" gasp of this thing and if folks would stop being led by the nose through fear they'd deal woth t at home (as they should in most cases) and fill up hospitals. I guess we will see....the logic box they all find themselves in is what good is a vaccine if a vaccine isn't good enough?

As I hauled various mids to BWI and Amtrak station and DC Metro, all noted they were supposed to get tested within X hours of return. Not clear if it was a self-test kit (good luck on finding) or they had to get a lab result.

All the SAs have no doubt been having strategy and tactics sessions.

My son called the local hospital and they said he needed a doctor’s order for the test. He said it was a military requirement. The woman said “thank you for your service, but you need a doctor’s visit to get the test done here.”

So he scheduled one at a local pharmacy instead.

Plan ahead.

At the Coast Guard Academy, cadets were asked to test within 3 days of their planned return so that, if positive, they could quarantine/recover at their leave location. Upon return to the Academy, they are tested immediately before doing anything else like entering the dorm. They will retest the whole corps on Wednesday. They will also be doing an optional vaccine event (boosters and flu) at the same time. My son tested in the Denver area Thursday (negative) and tested again when he got to the Academy yesterday (again negative). He is vaxxed and already got his booster at the Academy two days before coming home on leave. Here’s hoping for a healthy return for all students at all the academies!

Folks, I am going to warn up front… let’s not turn this into a COVID opinions thread. Keep it on topic about the return of the Brigade and what the plan is for reform. If you want to debate vaccines, the virus, etc, take it elsewhere.

We have an appointment for DS (USNA) but I am concerned results will not be back in time. DW works in medical field and said results are days behind due to the volume of testing.

So why not just delete that post then? Seems pretty simple if you believe it violates the SAF rules, etc.

My large school district employer has been sending us emails about how "we are going back strong, five days in-person, blah blah," and have been doing drive-through testing. My only two non-Internet friends who happen to be colleagues both have the virus. The district softened their tone a bit and said when we get back to make sure all staff and students take home their computers in case we need to go virtual. We also have to op check the Zoom connection, etc.

If I had any money I would bet on the fact we will go in Monday and the Supe will send a late night email and tweet saying we will be virtual for a couple weeks.

Big push for booster upon their return too if they don’t already have it. I don’t believe the academies have mandated it yet. The testing is going to be difficult with all the Mids coming from all over. Taking into account flights, buses and trains, which is a mess at the moment. I’m sure they are working on plans but not aware of anything being released as of yesterday.

A booster a day keeps the Omicron away.

Think the guy above is right, they will do a two week virtual "just to be safe."

No testing kits to be found in this area.

My son told me when he got back home that USNA wanted 80% booster and that they were at 77%. So hopefully 120 more get it. Not sure what percentage is now, or when they will require it, or if this info is still relevant.

This is not correct - because one academy has a requirement you can't be "sure" others do as well. USAFA's protocol is not the same. Not commenting on any other aspects of this thread - but didn't want to rumor mill to get traction on the "all academies" statement.

It will be interesting to see what the COA will be for the mids who test positive and will stay home to quarantine.
- how many days will they remain home?
- how will they keep up with their studies as most mids did not bring any of their books home?
- what about a positive test one day and a negative test the following day?
- interesting how some Academy's are doing pretesting and others are not, but all are doing testing after students arrive.

BTW - covid is over effective 1 Jan 2022, just announced.

Let the chaos begin

- mids that have tested positive are staying home (for how long…no one knows yet)
- impossible to make rebookings at this time for those who have popped positive
- some mids have tested positive on Friday and now tested negative today (Sunday) and never showed any symptoms…some have showed symptons
- some mids did not get acknowledged that it’s Ok to travel, despite following proper communication directions.
- some mids that tested negative and have arrived at KP tonight…will undoubtedly test positive when the regiment does a full retest this Tues/Wed
- When mids email the Health Rep with their positive test status, they get an automatic “out of office” reply.

I’m not sure this whole pretesting COA was thought thru very carefully. Lots of mids awaiting direction and a logistical nightmare for many. Hopefully tomorrow brings some answers.
