Very impressive guy. He commanded the 2nd Mardiv and visited my ship in Beirut while we were part of the Multi National Peackeeping Force. It was shortly after the US Embassy was bombed and the situation was ratcheting up pretty quickly. Very motivated and motivating person.

RIP General Gray. He was the Commandant when by brother was in. He still has one of his "Do you know where your Commandant is today" business cards somewhere. I don't know if this is required reading at Annapolis, but it should be.

General Gray was promoted to Commandant 30 days after I separated and moved on to civilian life. I, of course, stayed in touch with buddies and kept abreast of USMC happenings via the Marine Corps Gazette, etc. I was always kind of jealous of those serving under his leadership.
