General Gray, 29th Commandant of the Marine Corps passes at 95 years old. Among other things, he is known for posing in cammies for his official portrait.

Very impressive guy. He commanded the 2nd Mardiv and visited my ship in Beirut while we were part of the Multi National Peackeeping Force. It was shortly after the US Embassy was bombed and the situation was ratcheting up pretty quickly. Very motivated and motivating person.

General Gray was promoted to Commandant 30 days after I separated and moved on to civilian life. I, of course, stayed in touch with buddies and kept abreast of USMC happenings via the Marine Corps Gazette, etc. I was always kind of jealous of those serving under his leadership.

Another good article... https://www.usni.org/magazines/proceedings/2014/november/intellectual-warrior

Semper Fi General Gray. Wishing you fair winds and following seas.
