How exactly does the rodeo team and equestrian team at USAFA work? I've tried looking for more information on it on the internet, but I haven't found anything. Can anyone enlighten me on how the rodeo team works?

I'm planning on applying for the academy next year, I'm a rising junior. I was involved in high school rodeo my freshman year of high school. I am considering getting back into rodeo, and I would love to hear more about how this sport works at the academy. Thanks!

I have a couple good friends involved with equestrian, so let me know if you have any specific questions. You can get involved right after basic, and I'm pretty sure there are a few LOS slots (gives you more time in the afternoon to train.) There are several travel opportunities over the year...the team has a vehicle and the really active people go over to the barn on base (maybe a 10-15 minute drive, I've been there a couple times) pretty much every day.

Like I said, let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll ask around.

Okay, thanks!

Are the horses owned by the academy or the cadets?

And okay, I'm not sure how to ask this, but is the rodeo team considered a sport? I'm pretty sure it is an intercollegiate sport. Does the team travel to rodeos like other intercollegiate teams? Does the amount of time interfere with academics?

Hello,

Did you figure out how the rodeo team works? My daughter is planning on applying to the academy in a few years and she would like to join the team. I have the same questions you asked above.
Thanks!
