Everyone was returned to duty in good condition
Thursday, Jun. 09, 2011 CAMP SHELBY, Miss. -- No one was hurt when lightning struck a utility pole near tents sheltering 77 Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets during a thunderstorm, and all 77 sent to hospitals for precautionary checkups are back at training, Camp Shelby officials said.
The cadets were among 450 Air Force ROTC trainees,
most of them rising seniors, from around the country, said Maj. Deidre Musgrave, spokeswoman for Camp Shelby. She said the Air Force ROTC sends 450 students every two weeks from May through the start of August for training required for them to become officers.

Thursday, Jun. 09, 2011 UPDATE: Cadets back training at Camp Shelby
CAMP SHELBY -- Seventy-seven cadets taken to area hospitals as a precaution after a lightning strike are back at Camp Shelby, an official said today.
Lightning struck a power pole near their tents. No serious injuries were reported.
“Everyone was returned to duty in good condition,” Army National Guard Maj. Deidre Musgrave told Sun Herald today.
The Air Force Reserve cadets are at the Joint Forces Training Center for two weeks of work, she said. All the injured were responsive and stable after the lightning hit about 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Two cadets were transported to the hospital by ambulance and 75 were taken by bus, she said.
None of the cadets were from Keesler Air Force Base, a Keesler official said.
