Hi there,

I am a 24-year-old interested in getting a Masters at some point in the near future. Grad school is a heavy interest of mine with a decent global affairs program. I was wondering what resources/literature is available online for prospectives like myself. I work remotely now and was also wondering if ROTC can accommodate a part-time job so I don’t lose my position at my current company? If not, no big deal.

The scholarships I’m aware of for this pathway is minuteman and GFRD

I don't think ROTC supports grad degrees. A 100% Post-9/11 GI Bill + Yellow Ribbon would probably be a much better pathway.

My husband and I both were in ROTC as graduate students. He was in the green to gold. I was a campus programmer. I did not work by choice while in grad school and ROTC outside of the breaks and summer. I don't think my husband worked either we went the broke graduate school route and focused on academics.

My DS's AFROTC detachment has a law school student who is participating in ROTC. She is doing an expedited coursework with the 4 years compressed into 2 years, so I would think something may be available based upon that. Your best bet would be to inquire with the detachment at the school you are interesting in attending.

For some of these programs, the language can be nuanced in terms of being a ROTC program. For example, at GWU, we have about 55 students attending medical, law, applied physics, and Foreign Area Officer programs in what we call DUINS (Duty Under Instruction). Because there isn't a large training command nearby, they wind up being assigned to me for "care and feeding" administratively. But, they aren't marching around with the Battalion and they aren't having uniform inspections and things of that nature. They are with NROTC but in truth they are separate.

The Army may have something similar, but each PMS may approach it differently.

Go talk to the Recruiting Ops Officer (ROO) at the AROTC unit for the school you will attend. They should be able to lay out the options and put you in contact with the appropriate Reserve or NG units for the GRFD. Minuteman is initially for a 2 year military JC right?... so that might not be an option.

Just a side note, when our twins were going through the military application thing with both ROTC and the academies, They were told by AROTC, that they could complete ROTC, Commission Reserve, and while they drilled could attend grad school immediately after graduation. It would be
on their dime so to speak, the Army would not pay, but they would still be Commissioned and drilling. There is also Educational Delay, and it works different for each branch I believe, but basically it "pauses" your ADSO until you graduate Grad School.

Thanks. This seems like the best option for the schools I’d like to attend. I’ll look into getting the ROOs information and see what is available.
