So I received a 4 Yr Scholarship to Texas A&M and the Citadel. A&M has always been my Plan B, however I have not been accepted yet and the deadline to accept the Scholarship is approaching. Ive heard good things about the Citadel and been accepted, however I am trying to decide if I should visit or not. Any tips on what I should do about TAMU?

You can always try to transfer later, there are no guarantees, but usually they make transfers work. Accepting it somewhere by the deadline is very important. I would definitely do all the research you can, if you can afford to visit the Citadel, do it. Even if you end up not choosing it, it can still have value because each school/ROTC department you visit, the better you can make a decision, even if it is just reinforcing your first choice. I would also let Texas A & M know you have received the scholarship, might not have any effect, or it could. I would let ROTC and admission know right away. Good luck on your decision.

When it comes to SMCs you should not attend sight unseen.
Your first semester/year can be an extreme experience and you need to be prepared for what will come.
At a civilian college one can adapt at their own pace, in there own way. Not so at an SMC.
If you cannot afford it contact admissions and tell them you were awarded the scholarship and explain you situation.
Some SMCs have money available to help pay for visits.

I speak to a lot of high school students interested in The Citadel. It is unique and I second the advice above - do visit if at all possible. As an accepted high school student, they will schedule a weekend visit that allows you to stay in the barracks with first year cadets, discussions with the faculty of the School you are interested in (e.g. School of Engineering, School of Math & Science, etc) and as an ROTC scholarship awardee, you will certainly get to meet the PMS and his staff. However, if you cannot travel to Charleston for a campus visit - do call the Admissions Office and ask to speak to a current cadet and your assigned counselor. Remember - the college has accepted you - everyone there should now want to make sure they do everything possible to allow you to make the best decision. Use this as a time to test the college - are they responsive to your questions? Do school officials and cadets appear positive and sincere? Do you they respond promptly. There will be surprises waiting for you at whatever college you attend - eliminate as many as you can now. Best of Luck

I'm in the same boat as you but for a different school and 3 year. Got the scholarship it haven't heard back from the school yet.

Last year my daughter did both (with a different school), she had already been put on a wait list, so she emailed admissions to inform them and told the ROO. We don't know which was the magic bullet but received an email within 24 hours letting her know she was accepted. Disclaimer: There are schools that don't care, but it never hurts to try!

Let them know you got the scholarship. They want the money!
