Hi All,

Long time listener/first time caller.

Does anyone know the current status of the KP Dinghy Team? Has a new coach been hired? It’s been difficult to get information from those in charge.

Thanks for any info you may be able to share.

Go to the Kings Point Dinghy team facebook page, @kpsailing, and go to the about section. There is a messenger you can use that pops up on screen, and a phone number. I assume the team is still active, as they posted in November of 2018.

This weekend at the Graham Hall Team Race, hosted by USNA, they unveiled their new Battle-Standard-themed pinnies and a new coach, Michael McBrien!

KP just had their best race of the John Jackson Team Race, a loss to CNU 1,4, 5 to our 2,5,6. We were leading with a 1, 3, 6 at the top marks passed 2 back for a 1,2,6, at the bottom marks, but 6 failed to stay with 5, and in the light and shifty conditions, 5 passed everyone to take the 1. But we are finally handling the boats well enough to do some team racing! Progress!

Does anyone know if USMMA has a boat in the Marion to Bermuda race this June? My DS is an offshore sailor and he wants to participate in @kpsailing, if MMA sails large, offshore boats. Where can I find info on any offshore sailing at MMA? DS is currently on a 92 foot schooner and prefers the larger boats over dinghys.

Last year they raced in the 2018 Newport to Bermuda race along with several others.

A few of the upcoming races:
2019 American Yacht Club Spring Series
2019 64th Edlu Distance Race
2019 Storm Trysail Club Block Island Race Week
2019 Around Long Island Regatta

A Coloradoan is the Regimental Waterfront Officer (RWO)
He hails from Fort Collins, CO, a land-locked state, but that didn’t hinder his love for the sea. He knew USMMA was the right place for him. “It’s the best decision I’ve made in my life.”
When he arrived at USMMA, he had never been on a sailboat but had some experience with power boats and kayaks. That didn’t stop him from becoming involved with the waterfront his first year as a Plebe. He is on the Varsity Offshore Sailing Team and races in the Sonars.
The Regimental Waterfront Officer is the highest-ranking Midshipman Officer at the waterfront, a leadership position that brings with it many responsibilities.
There a few Coloradans on the Offshore Sailing Team. USMMA has some great opportunities for offshore sailing.
