SAs on the ACT

Hello, everyone.

I was told that USNA only considers Math and English on the ACT. With that said, are you only required to send in your Math and English scores? Is it even possible to only send in those two categories?

In addition, is it correct that all of the other SAs review all of your scores? Thanks.

Hey, to my knowledge, you can't send just your Math and English scores. Just send what you have, super score scores if you have taken the test previously. I don't have knowledge about the other SAs, but even when USNA says they "consider" only Math and English, doesn't mean they won't at least look at your other categories and composite score. Assume everyone will look at everything.

It’s because Admissions will convert your ACT score to an SAT score based on your percentile. This makes it a lot easier for them to compare applicants. A 36 ACT equals an 800 SAT, etc. Just send everything and your math and english scores will post, the other two will be ignored (Unless things have changed recently).

Makes sense, thanks. What if my Science and Reading scores are really bad, will this affect how the SAs view my application?

So this is what it shows in my candidate portal ( minus my scores ofc). They take all of the scores ACT gives them, but they only really look at math and English. If you have SAT scores as well, they'll convert your ACT scores to SAT and combine them ( high math ACT score + high SAT reading score and vice versa).

Would a 32 math, 34 English, and 34 reading convert well on the SAT scale? I did not take the SAT, and I’m unsure how the academy looks at the ACT in comparison…

Admissions looks at both tests the same. They will convert ACT scores to SAT scores since they tend to be more precise and so they can evaluate everyone equally. I can't provide hard numbers (USNA probably has their own algorithm), but I'd reckon you are sitting in the 700s for both. You should be in good shape.

That's really good. I know a couple current mids with 30s in math English and reading. If the rest of the application is good, those ACT scores definitely won't hurt you.

My scores were very similar to yours and when I eventually saw the converted scores for math and English on MIDS I think it was 760 and 780 respectively. They don’t care about the other parts of the test.
