If you are accepted and admitted into one of the prep school, do you have to retake the SAT the following year to reapply. (If your score was really low). Or do Prep school people have a separate application?

It depends on if you are sponsored and if your academy requests it or not. If it is low and you are reapplying it would probably be better for you to retake it, especially if you are non-sponsored. If you are sponsored I think there are some differences to your application like you don't have to complete certain parts but I am non-sponsored so I don't know for sure. I am at Marion Military Institute if you have any questions!

At least at NAPS you do retake the SAT.

But I have never seen where that sat played a role in SA admission the following year. It’s always been graduate in good standing and then advance. Never saw a mention of SATs being an issue.

Have no idea about prep schools other than NAPS especially foundation schools.

I think when DD was first accepted to Foundation, she received an email from USNA admissions that she did not have to retake the SAT. I got the impression that the decision on whether a candidate had to retake the SAT or not when at sponsored prep came from admissions . As for the application , you do not need to resubmit but you do need to submit grades while at sponsored prep ( grades need to be As and Bs) , successfully complete the PRT (not the CFA) and obtain congressional nominations again . They don’t carry over . You resubmit and need to go through the interview process again with your congressional reps.

Typically, at the Prep Schools, you will take multiple SATs along with thorough academic preparations for the Academy. They will ask you to apply through your 'normal' nomination paths along with allowing you to apply for an appointment as an airman/soldier/sailor, which is a special path reserved from enlisted members of the military branches. One of my students that I worked with last year is a Preppie at the USAFA Prep School and one of my students from this year has just been accepted to MAPS. It is a great path if you are able to earn an invitation. Best of luck!

The CGA cadets that are currently attending NAPS are not required to retake the SAT test. My son currently attends NAPS and also knows alot of Navy cadets who also are not required to retest but there definitely are people who are retaking the test so I guess it depends on the Navy requirements.

i can only speak for USAFAPS. Not ONE Preppie takes the SAT or is told to take it. @AcadAdmCoach which Prep Schools are you referring to? The Cadet Candidates at USAFAPS have their Academic GPA evaluated every quarter, and if it is not satisfactory they send them to academic probation or ACPRO.

I am actively a Falcon Scholar for USAFA at Georgia Military College right now, we were required to take at minimum two SATs' or ACT's. As to my knowledge, army sponsored scholars were the only other required group that had to take one of their preferred test. While it is not mandatory for non sponsored preppies or those of other branches, it is highly advised that you still take the tests at least once.

Why do you say that it is highly advised to take the SAT? None was asked nor told to take it at USAFAPS, and the same goes for last year's class.

Here at GMC, they heavily pushed taking the tests as they really wanted us to improve our scores. As a Falcon scholar, I was required a minimum of two tests by the Falcon Foundation themselves. The argument made to us is that if you can show improvement in your test scores, it will help strengthen your application, even if just a little.

OK I see. You meant for Falcon Scholars. Thank you for the clarification. And good luck!!!

From what my USAFAPS DS was informed, I'll confirm what luqui03 said, cadet candidates at USAFAPS do not need to take the SAT again.

Improving your ACT/SAT improves your resume. After a year of prep school, someone may choose a different path than a SA. Higher scores will help improve your chance of getting into a great school and/or get a great academic scholarship. It's really a no-lose situation, in my opinion.
