Hey everyone, hope everything is going well.

I recently took my SAT with Essay and I got the scores back not too long ago. I did very well on the SAT with a 1460 (720 Reading, 740 Math) but I pretty much bombed the essay with a 6-3-5. I've already contacted my admissions officer to figure out how to make up for this in another way due to the fact that College Board will no longer be offering the Essay after the June SAT (which I will not be able to take).

My admissions officer told me exactly what I need to do to make up for this and I will for sure do it. I was hoping to know from the people here what impact the SAT Essay had on their chances of appointment and if it may have played a crucial role in acceptance or denial, and if my scores specifically will cause some problems. Additionally, I'm also interested of the effect it will have on all service academy applications and if it varies among them.

Thank you and let me know if more information is needed :)

DS SAT score was identical to yours(730 reading and 730 math) and did not do much better on the essay (16). He was notified in early December that he was appointed. As you know there are so many things that get rolled into someone's acceptance. As far as scores go I think you have done most of the heavy lifting already.

My son had the same overall SAT score as you with a slightly different breakdown of Math and Verbal. His essay was a 6-2-7.

He's Class of '24 and is currently home for one more day until he returns to USMA for CFT. Has gotten A's in his 2 English classes thus far.

You'll be fine.

I got accepted for the class of 2025. SAT was 1470 and my essay was 5-3-5. Which I looked up and that’s “average” - I wouldn’t sweat it too much. :)

For USMA, the essay score is basically Pass/Fail. Under the old scoring system it was 7, but I do not know the cutoff under the new SAT/ACT scores.
