Hey everyone,

Just wondering, do the service academies only view the math and critical sections? My splits are 800 math 740 reading and 800 writing and I thought the writing score could help me out. Also, I'm not sure where I heard this, but is it true that the service academies solely use sat scores and not the gpa for the academic portion of the wcs if your school does not rank? Thank you!

Rumor has it they do not weight the writing section yet (as of class of 2016) because they do not have enough statistics. RUMOR HAS IT, so don't quote me on this. I don't even remember where I saw/heard this.

Now, a 800 math score and 740 reading score are GREAT... Specially the 800 math (math > reading as far as I am aware). If you are applying for the class of 2017, I don't see why not trying to get 800 on reading, since they superscore... but if I were you I'd focus on the other requirements - ECs, leadership, CFA, etc.

Navalacademy, we were told by a captain in the WP admissions office that when schools don't rank they look at SAT or ACT scores instead- so your information is good.

WOWZERS...800 is great! :yllol: Aim high and get that 800 on critical reading. I'm sure you can do it!

Haha thanks! I'm just hoping sat scores count as much as the gpa.

GPA doesn't really count, it's the class rank in your school that counts.

If your school doesn't rank, then what they do (from what I hear) is rank you nationally according to standardized test scores. On your SAT/ ACT paper it should tell you what percentile you were put in against the nation.
