As a homeschooler does a 1410 SAT score look good for my application? I made 670 in reading and writing and 740 in math. I've heard that homeschoolers need better scores to validate their transcripts. Is this true? Thank you.

It looks pretty good from the perspective of a regular high schooler. From what I’ve seen, once you get into the 1400+ range, you can get a near perfect score if you just prep your way there. KhanAcademy is a good free resource.

It’s a good score. Go search here or google for averages etc.

The real answer is we don’t know what scores and other statistics are sufficient for an appointment because we don’t know how exactly it’s all figured in to your WCS, nor do we know your competition.

Put forth your best application. If that means taking a course and retaking the test, do it. They superscore, so it can’t hurt.

I would say it is helpful to have SAT scores that support your transcript grades. Like some one said you could probably increase that with some prep if that is your first time score. If possible take calculus and science at community college. Make sure you are in some leadership roles in the community and / or home school groups. Hopefully you also have a sport. Good luck.

Go over your incorrect reading answers on practice tests. I don't know what is out there but find an advanced grammar book.

WTG on math. I'm curious if you are comfortable sharing, what math curriculum do you use?

I would say if that was your first time taking it there is no harm in prepping and taking it again. I would say that 1400+ is really good, but you also have to make sure that you are generally well rounded when it comes to extracurricular, volunteering, etc.

That’s a good score, about the same as what I have, but it doesn’t hurt to take the test again multiple times (if you have the financial capacity obviously). Just keep trying to increase that score as much as possible. Also, if available, take the ACT.

I really hate how College Board is a business.

Yea but it is what it is. If there's a need for something, you can bet that someone's gonna try to profit off of it.
The College Board is a 501C3 organization *

I was networked in for a job interview with them and learned a lot about their organization but I felt that I was not a great match for their needs and declined a follow-on interview.

* Non-Profit but their C-Suite folks are well compensated. At my level - Director/Dep Director they were competitive with high tech compensation in the Princeton NJ area.

The footnote is key ...501(c)(3) status doesn't mean that those operating an entity aren't financially motivated. ;) !

1410 (740/670) isn't going to keep you out of USNA or any Service Academy, but no one can tell if it is enough to get in --- IF EVERYTHING ELSE (Academics, Leadership, CFA, Service) WAS EQUAL (and no two candidates are ever completely equal), then someone with a 1500 might get the Appointment-, but only you know if there is room for improvement. I would recommend taking it once more , there has to be some advantage to taking it again when the pressure is off a bit. Also, some people do better on the ACT than SAT (and vice versa), so never hurts to take both.
