Scam targeting new troops

Who in Basic even gets to see their pay let alone use it? If they overpaid you bank it, they may find out in an audit sooner or later and withhold it from future pay and you won't get paid for a while. Had extra pay each month for living off the local economy at remote site which went to the cook at the small chow hall (like for about 30 officers and enlisted). Transferred out at site closure but never lost the extra pay. They never asked and I never complained. (Statute of limitations expired long ago). Bottom line if you have a pay problem go to Personnel and inquire.

It saddens me to believe (and say, publicly) that I'm not all that shocked.

Tragic, that a rookie would think a Venmo (or similar) recovery of govt funds was legit...but that's how a ton of kids think, now.

Then again, a large swath of the gen-pop (private and biz) accepts it, so I suppose they could argue they'd have every reason to expect Uncle Sam to do it, too.

Good God, I'm getting old.....
