My son has received several phone calls from WP Admissions office, on one of the phone calls he was asked if he would be interested in the prep course. Which he replied with absolutely, I just want in and he was told good to hear but WP is still looking to possibly direct admit him. He received another call from them asking him to write a report. This was in January and we have not heard anything since. He called his FFR and was told his file is labeled competitive, but he has not received any 3Q or 2Q letters. We are wondering if anyone could possibly shed some light on where he possibly stands?

Good sign. They don’t necessarily send out 2Q or 3Q to everyone. Some people even got appointments after May. Be patient and wait. Even Prep is good too.
 
Thank you, the waiting is the hardest part. He is handling it better than me and his mom ha ha.
 
Several calls from admissions should be seen as a positive sign. They are showing serious interest, and direct admit or prep offer seems likely in my opinion based on what they are telling him.
Does he have a Nomination to USMA?
 
This is great to hear and definitely a good sign. If DS is offered Prep, I would encourage taking it based on my experience there, but all the best to him!
 
Yes his has Pnom and Presidential and my disabled service nom. He is exited either way and will accept whatever they offer, he just wants in to WP.

If he has a Principal Nom (Pnom you reference) and is deemed 3Q, he will receive an Appointment, no Prep offer. Curious about the phone calls offering Prep and requesting him to write a report. Doesn’t make sense to me.
You can compare his stats to see if he fits the “average” statistics listed by USMA. If he fits in that average academically and physically he should be good. Did he pass DODMERB?
That will give you a good idea of 3Q. While USMA doesn’t reference minimum standards, that is all he needs to meet to be deemed qualified.
3Q + Principal NOM= Appointment to USMA

Then I will say no worry just wait. Very very positive. Principal nomination is very important to secure a spot. By law, USMA will accept principal nominated candidate if they are qualified. Prep school is for academic or physical not strong enough candidate. I think your kid is sitting between competitive or admissible borderline. I guess they will offer you something.
