DS has accepted appointment to USMA Class of 2019. He recently turned 18. I assume he still needs to register with the Selective Service prior to R-Day. Can anyone on this forum provide additional information on this topic?

Yes, all 18 year old males have to register for the selective service regardless of anything else.

Yes, as posted above, males must register. It will be a question on the E-Qip.

You can do it online now. The confirmation email with your selective service number (needed for the E-Qip) comes fairly quickly.

For you youngsters with late birthdays, you can sign up within the 6 months prior to turning 18.

If you are filling out the FAFSA, there is an opportunity to simply check a box to submit your Selective Service registration using the info already entered into the FAFSA form. It worked nicely for my youngest son this year.

I was wondering the same thing the other day. Thanks for posting. I wondered if being already signed up for the military (my son accepted WP already) meant that he didn't have to also register with Selective Service.

A note for all the people with late birthdays. I just tried to register my DS and this is what I found out. You can apply before you turn 18 but under law they cannot register your application until you are 17 years and 11 months old. If you fill out the application earlier than that they hold your information until you reach that one month mark before you turn 18 and then at that time they automatically register you and send you a confirmation email.
