Hi guys I'm currently a junior and I'm wondering if should take AP physics senior year to help get into WP. I have a 2350 SAT, a 3.91 unweighted GPA, and I will have taken 7 AP exams by the end of this year. My core senior schedule is AP calc BC, AP lit, AP world history, AP statistics, and AP gov. I dislike science but I do recognize the need for physics especially for a STEM school like WP. The current teacher for AP physics kinda sucks, but the teacher for A level physics is even worse so I think AP would be my best bet. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Let me the first to say, congrats on that SAT score that is quite impressive! But keep in mind, (im sure you know this by now) SAT scores aren't everything. Make sure you are well balanced as a student in school clubs, sports, etc. 60-30-10. Regarding physics, really the service academies do like to see when students take the most challenging courses their school has to offer. For example, it wouldn't be a good thing for them to see that a student went from honors to academic. They would much rather see, academic to honors to AP. But really its up to you. If you think a lot of your other classes will suffer 12th grade if you take AP physics, then i personally wouldn't take it. But hey, if you can handle it. go for it. Good luck!

+1 to stayingpositive. It sounds like you already know which one to do with the "The current teacher for AP physics kinda sucks, but the teacher for A level physics is even worse so I think AP would be my best bet." AP physics will look good on your resume, and it will help a lot when it comes to improving your academics. I'd say go for it if you can handle it. :thumb:

My DS was recently admitted to WP with a profile similar to yours. He scored a 2340 on the SAT, and also took many APs, mainly in English, the Social Sciences and Foreign Language. He is not particularly strong in either math or science, but knew that those were subjects he would need to take at West Point, so he took Physics and Calculus senior year, figuring that they would prepare him for the West Point curriculum, while also showing Admissions that he could be successful in those areas. He did not take either at the AP level. He took Accelerated Physics and College Prep. Calculus. Obviously, every file is unique, but I tell you this so that you know that AP science and math are not required, and that you can be admitted without either. Take the highest level of each that you can be successful at.
