Hey y'all. I'm currently attending one of the big three SA's and I'm planning to leave and do ROTC soon. I just wanted to see if there's anyone on the forum who's done something similar and can speak on what it was like to go from the demanding SA life to a bit of a more independent life in ROTC. Thank you!

I don't recall seeing any posts the last couple years from anyone who has attempted that. I am sure you have put in much thought on the decision, but just be aware of the "grass is greener" myth.

I assume you would be a college programmer initially, and would have to redo dodmerb and waivers?

I've met a few cadets at Norwich who transfered from USMA. My guess is less rigorous academics and more liberties.

I have/had three AFROTC kids at acaademically rigorous colleges. We've also hosted numerous Academy kids and have seen and heard of their experiences. I would just say that in some respects AFROTC can be more demanding because you do have more independence. ROTC will take a lot of time and you'll need to learn/practice good time management skills along with life skills such as budgeting for food and housing.
And depending on the school and major, academics could be as rigorous or more. There won't be a "2.0 and go" available. :)
Both systems have their attributes and both require hard work to succeed. Choose what experience you want to have.
Good luck!

Didn't you apply, reapply and go to NAPS? What is it about your experience this year that is causing you to seek to leave?

Spot-On Assessment! I will be entering what may be a more laborious/chaotic path with AFROTC instead of the USAFA. I'm studying abroad my 1st semester (Engineering), I come back in the spring, I will have to double-up on AFROTC classes, also have to commute to another university because mine is not the host (luckily close by). Obviously more military/discipline SA route, but there's the ever presence of structure/guidance, a one-stop-shop. With the ROTC route, I will be juggling more bowling pins than a pro circus clown to stay the course, as you said, "I" will have to manage the clock, the structure to an extent and manage both military and non-military environments/independence and other outside influences/forces, but all my decision and I'm ready to hit the ground running when I get back to the U.S.
