Service Assignments!

DS a smidge disappointed. Didn’t get first choice. But he’s believing he was placed where he is meant to be! SWO(Nuclear) in his near future! And congrats to your DS!
Congrats, so exciting!! It seems like yesterday they started this journey. . .

That is my DS' designation. He just got home from his first Division Officer tour last night and is headed to nuke school soon. So far, he is loving it. Lots of hard work, but he's had some great experiences so far.

SWO Nukes have the best of both worlds (SWO and Nuke). They get the nuke signing bonus and follow on bonus once they complete nuke power school. And when they get to the rank of LT, they get the Department Head bonus which is currently sitting at 105K. The work is challenging, but the compensation makes it tolerable.

And if they leave the Navy with a nuke engineering background, they won't search for a job. People will seek them out.

Can anyone share any data from a "typical" NROTC unit on the numbers of various slots and what % got their first choice? I know "typical" is difficult but just sort of curious in general about where folks get placed and what % get their first choice. I also understand that certain warfare specialties are more competitive than others. Any SPECWAR/SEAL placements from ROTC that anyone is aware of?

GWU had one selectee for SEAL and one for EOD this time around. This was out of a graduating class of 17.
