I am a USAFA class of 2025 appointee with plans to set up a banking account with USAA. My parents are not former military so I assume I would not be eligible, but I have read on here that people were able to set up accounts with their appointee letter and travel order. Does anyone have previous experience with this?

I was able to do everything online through the qualified by pre-commissioning program and entering some information.

I can just tell you what my son did not that it is right or wrong just the path he chose. He already had a checking account with a local bank here in KY. He opted to just use that. When BCT was over and he had the lay of the land at USAFA he took an afternoon break one day and actually called usafa and set up a checking account through them and opened a credit card through them. He said it was much easier he thought after he was actually active duty rather than going through explaining to someone he had an appointment letter, etc.
