SF86 Question

In the instructions for appointees it say to complete and print a copy of the SF86 for I-Day. Will I be turning this in or just using the answers for reference? I read in some older posts that you complete the actual SF86 on a computer during BCT but just wanted to confirm.

Should I print all the pages or just the ones that apply to me?

Thanks

I dont know if this is the official reason for making a copy. However, from what i have read, it helps to keep that for your records. If you ever have to complete the form again, it would really help if you gave the same answers to the same questions. Ths isn't to say that you were lying the first time or lying the second time, but rather that you may not remember something you did or didn't do 5 or 10 years ago.

I would do exactly what the directions tell you to do otherwise you might get some attention.
But, what you will need is just the pages that apply to you. They are going to have you sit down and enter the data in a computer. They want you to have it already filled out so all you have to do is re-enter it.

Amazing that they're not using e-QIP.

I'm pretty sure they just fill out a paper SF-86 and then show up to I-Day and use the paper form so e-QIP doesn't take 4 hours. But I also don't understand why they just don't have the appointees fill out the e-QIP form before I-Day. It's not that hard.

Maybe the SF-86 is their first test of their mettle, lol.

As far as I know, they don't do the e-QIP before I-day because they want the administrators there to answer any questions you have before you submit. Personally, I would print all the pages just to have a complete set. Then you know if you lost a page by the page numbers.

I'm lucky and already did my e-QIP for AFROTC, so I'm just bringing the printed copy they had me make

You will be entering the SF-86 into a secured computer once you get there on I-day (usually in the first week).
You want to keep a copy because security clearances expire and you have to resubmit. Its much easier to start from where you left off. A TS/SCI clearance requires a 15 year look back. I personally have trouble remembering what I did last week!

You only need to print out the pages that have information on it. No need to kill more trees.

Ripping off my own posts

“Pro tip - after you get cleared and later on if they additional investigations for clearances above secret, make a FISA request to get your file (https://www.commerce.gov/osy/progra...ow-request-copy-your-background-investigation) while the system they enter the data into will retain their answers, it’s super helpful to have a copy of the investigation. And it’s interesting to see what they collect.”

Not sure about the 15 year thing. Worst for me was 10 years of residence/employment, 7 for the lifestyle stuff. The SSBI is pretty thorough, and if you’re lucky (not lol) a poly is unpleasant at best. I envied my son when he was able to leverage the fact that he had the benefit of youth and could recall everything he did and lived few places. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday so my periodic reinvestigations suck:)

Fill it all out to the best of your ability and save a copy. There’s standdowns happening across the department as a result of the Massachusetts Airman, so I’d expect it to get more complicated.
