What do you recommend for shin splints? Since my DS is not a runner, he has terrible shin splints and running in "leathers" do not help at all. Should he go to the clinic?

Thanks

My DD had them in the beginning. I emailed coach what should she do and he said they will send her to a trainer if she finally complains about it. At home she was taught stretching exercises which helped alot, but there was no time to do them during INDOC. She asked for me to send inserts from the sporting good stores to create more cushion in leathers. Hope that helps.

He has inserts and put them in his boots, finally, during Indoc but by that time, his shin splints were beginning. I will tell him to tell his coach and maybe that will help. Thanks,

R-I-C-E is rest, ice, compression, elevation.
That helps me. Also, rolling a cold water bottle over the sore area helps too.

hahahahahaha, you are funny indeed. HOW do you rest at KP?
We have told him how to stretch them but over the phone may not translate well. We have told him to put ice on it but where do you get ice? We have told him to go to the health clinic but he is a guy and can bear it. So . . . we are out of suggestions for him. We sent him with some sore muscel cream but he cannot find it and may have been taken out of his bag.
I will tell him about the cold water bottle and the RICE and will wait and see what happens.

Thanks,

Tell your son to research the internet about proper body placement and foot placement while running in whatever shoes he has. I'm not kidding. I used to be a professional ballet dancer and would get shin splints. Icing and proper placement of the body and the feet on the ground worked for me.:thumb:

POLYSORB insert

As a runner, I hate to say this because there are no other options for running shoes at KP, but shin splints typically come from shoes that are not designed for that individual's foot. I realize this does not help much due to the situation.
How about an over the counter insert? My DS and my other son, who plays HS football, have POLYSORB by SPENCO in their shoes. They both swear by it. You can get them at Foot Locker, Champs, etc...Hope this helps

any particular model number for the Polysorbs? I can ship these to him along with a wrap. thanks,

polysorbs work miracles, run on the balls of your feet, stretch, run bare foot to strengthen the supporting muscles, grab towels with your toes, sit down curl your toes and do foot circles both directions, flex your toes and do foot circles both directions, just get used to the pain, it sucks.

Those "leathers" must be uncomfortable as my DS only wanted his insoles sent to him - nothing else!

I sent him several packs of insoles and he has used them in all of his shoes except for the "leathers". Thanks for the Polysorbs. I hope I got the right ones. Maybe these will work better for him.
