Somewhere between 20 and 30 VMI cadets made the trip down to join the Patriot Guard in defending the honor of Officer Crouse. This was not an official VMI event, so the cadets paid for gas themselves and had to take academic or First Class days (which are typically used to extend a furlough or a weekend pass) to go down.
The Westboro crew didn't end up picketing to the service after all, so the VMI cadets sat with the members of the VT Corps of Cadets during the memorial service.
