Should I Keep Going?

I am a senior applying to USAFA this year. I have received three rejection letters for nominations now so my only hope will be the vice presidential nomination. I really want to attend USAFA next year but don't know if i should keep investing all my time into it. I have a 3.9 gpa and passed the CFA. I have been the section leader in marching band and will be the team captain of the track team. I also do swimming and am in Nation Honors Society and beta club, pep band, and my youth group. I thought i had a good resume but these rejections have made me start to doubt. Anything helps.

"It's not over until you say it's over." I am also applying this year and I cannot remember who said that but it has driven me to continue no matter what happens. I think if you are truly interested in attending you should continue to pursue all available options. I am no expert but that is advice I have seen frequently on here.

If you have put together your very best application, there is nothing to be done except to wait for THIS YEAR’s decision. There will be many, many outstanding candidates with shiny, hard-won resumes, with or without nominations, who will not receive offers of appointment.

Presumably, your goal is to serve as an AF officer, and while USAFA is your desired gateway, I hope you have been tending AFROTC college plans as an alternate. That is a superb way to go, moves you along the path to a commission and a degree, and if you still have the urge to try again for USAFA, you will be eligible to request a ROTC nom from your unit commander, along with re-applying for elected official noms. Each class at USAFA has a goodly number of re-applicants, and re-applying shows determination and a level of grit.

Tend alternate plans, finish HS strong, PT to relieve stress and focus on things you can control. At some point, you will have an answer, in the next few months. Rejoice if it is the news you want, if it isn’t, you allow yourself a 10-minute pity party, then pivot to your alternate and press on.
