Slate and NWL Question

Hi all,

I just have a few quick question in regards to slates and the National Wait List. I understand that there are 10 spaces each MOC can nominate, but only about 1 wins the slate. How/when is that one person notified that they win the slate, or are they never notified about specifics? Also, how would one be notified if they are on the NWL? Is this at the end of appointments coming out?

Thanks!

I read somewhere on this forum that all 3Qd candidates with a nomination are technically placed on the NWL and then as the puzzle pieces are chosen (offers of appointment are made) they come off the NWL. This may be as “the” slate winner charged to that MOC’s quota or to some other available spot that Admissions may charge that candidate.
As far as knowing if you are on the list, if you have been notified that you are 3Qd and have secured a nomination, then under this theory you would be on the NWL at this point.

I wish we would refer to it more often as the National Pool rather than National Wait List (NWL). I think a lot of people confuse NWL with the waitlists of civilian colleges and those work very differently.

Not saying this to anyone in particular, just musing out loud.

@skinnerash I don't believe anyone is notified if they win the slate or if they are competing in the National Pool. The only time you'd know is if you are the principal nominee on a slate.
