Those who have attended SLS recently-

what can you tell me about the Friday "graduation"? Specifically, what takes place, where it is held, time of day, length of ceremony?

We have some family members thinking of doing a long drive to attend and are wondering if it is worthwhile for them.

Thanks in advance.

I believe, according to the schedule (or TENTATIVE schedule, as they name it), the Graduation Ceremony is held from 9 through 10am. Therefore, I am tempted to echo that.

I am not aware of what it consists, though.

As you are a mom, I suppose your daughter/son will be attending? If so, which session?
I'll be attending the 1st.

If it is worth it depends. My parents didn't go because I live a good ways away from West Point and flew to SLS. However, it's your choice.

The West Point band plays, The Director of Admissions speaks, and awards are given out for all of the different classes the candidates. If you want to see it, then by all means it will be a cool experience; but it's not a do-not-miss event in my opinoin.

Yea I second Jake's opiion. It was cool, but it wasn't something that I would've asked my mom to go out of her way to attend if it had been a hassle. Considering she was picking me up to go home that day, it worked out :D

If you are there that day to pick up you DS/DD and they say to get there at 10-11am to pick them up then arrive the hour or two early to catch the graduation. If you did not plan to pick up but were thinking about going to WP just to attend the graduation - skip it. Not worth the time/hassle. You will not miss much.
