The New Cadet Packing list says recommends:
e.Small folding multi-purpose tool/knife (Leatherman type)

Do any appointees, or current/past cadets have any recommendations for a specific brand or model?

Leatherman, Gerber, and SOG are popular brands.

I have a Gerber Suspension. It's magical. Never had an issue that I wanted to use it for that it couldn't handle.

The single best feature is probably the way the blades/tools are all on the outside of the handle. Leatherman used to make their's with the blades on the inside, and it chewed your hands up to us them for extended projects.

good luck!

I bought a Leatherman Wave (I think) at Walmart for around $40. Make sure you buy a tool that has needle-nose pliers to adjust weapon sights.

Leatherman MUT

Leatherman makes a version designed for military needs to include tactical/non-reflective coloring and 18 tools/items like wire cutters and various rifle cleaning and sight adjustment tools. It's a bit more pricey than the standard versions, but works very well. My DS received one from his grandparents last year for HS graduation prior to his departure for CBT and he raved about it. :thumb:

It's called the MUT and can be found at Leatherman's web site: /product/MUT

Which can also be accomplished using a nail, which is part of the basic kit for any range setup. You need not worry about the necessity to adjust sights with a multi-tool.
