Would you want to give us your ideal number of boot socks for beast (balancing not overpacking and making your life a little easier?)Ill let y’all decide which boxers to wear,
but fox river black socks are what I wear pretty much every day, and will work great for beast.
I will say, bring lots of both.
Take a look at the 32 degrees “cooling” black on black underwear from Costco (or you can get elsewhere.)Any suggestions on the best socks and underwear with no logos?
My wife wanted to pack dozens of extra socks for my son when he reported to Beast. I told her that was totally unnecessary. For boot socks, I would say pack what you can in a gallon size ziplock bag and that is enough. Your cadet will not need an excessive amount of extra socks as he/she will be issued boot socks as well, and despite popular belief, those issue socks are fine as well. For socks overall, we packed boot socks in one gallon ziplock and dress and white socks in a separate single ziplock bag. We also packed one ziplock of compression, moisture wicking boxer briefs. The more stuff you pack, the more stuff your cadet will have to stress over transferring into their military bag on R-Day. Do not pack extra things loose. Put them in ziplocks as it is much quicker and easier to transfer.Would you want to give us your ideal number of boot socks for beast (balancing not overpacking and making your life a little easier?)
Thank you, this is helpful. Over on the 2027 parents page there is much debate and little consensus! Yes, I read that, too. The ones I found (at costco) are black, with a black band, and a very subtle almost black logo on the waistband. I guess we're taking a chance here but these were recommended to me by a 2026 mom I know personally (and her son used them at Beast with no issues.) I guess if there's a problem it's standard issue tighty whitey city for my guy. If you're not on the 2027 parents FB page do join. MANY underwear threads. Lots of previously non FB people (me, hi) created accounts just to gain access. Overwhelming at times but ultimately helpful.I read that they can't have a logo. Is that accurate because the 32 degrees cooling I just looked up have a logo. Please advise and thank you.
Did u say Mid (navy)? They follow different uniform regs.Timely subject! My now 1/C Mid was just told he needs 100% cotton underwear, t-shirts, and socks for his upcoming summer aviation training. Is this even possible for the socks? Suggestions?
It's probably for fire hazard. Idk about men's underwear, but for undershirts, I really like to wear the black Soffe shirts under my flight suit. They come in 3-packs, can get them off Amazon or at a NEX if it's an NAS. It's what the large majority of my friends wear as well because they sell a bunch of them at our NEX. Socks... they have never checked what socks I'm wearing with my boots...Timely subject! Yes, he mentioned fire. Thanks for this, exactly what I was looking forIt's probably for fire hazard. Synthetics melt and adhere to the skin. Cotton does not. Don’t think further than that when it comes to aviation mishaps.Yes, he mentioned fire. Thanks for this, exactly what I was looking for
An important point in this comment - "his boots fit well." Your cadet is highly encouraged to buy a set of boots before reporting to Beast and spend some time breaking them in. The feet will certainly appreciate a broken in pair of boots. The same is true of low quarters. New boots and low quarters have a tendency to cause blisters which is a painful distraction during Beast. My plebe said the amount of extra socks he brought was good and the quality of socks were also good. They were issued clothing on R-Day, so he also used those. He said he had little if any blistering. His boots fit well, so that probably helped. His low quarters were a bit loose fitting.
